About Ron Dodson

Educator, Conservation Entrepreneur, Author, and American Steward

Today, my primary focus is serving as a guide to what I call The Stewardship Way—a way of seeing, thinking about, and caring for the places where we live, work, and spend our time.

I didn’t start out calling it that. The Stewardship Way is something I came to understand over time, through the work and experiences described below.

For over five decades, I’ve worked at the intersection of people, nature, and purpose. From launching beautification campaigns in small towns to building national programs that promote environmental stewardship, I’ve always believed that conservation starts with everyday choices—and grows from there.

I’ve founded organizations, built community-based programs, restored habitats, written books, and developed initiatives to connect people to the land and to each other. Along the way, I’ve been an advocate, a teacher, a storyteller, and—more recently—a conservation entrepreneur.

At this stage of my life, I work primarily as a teacher and writer—connecting dots between nature, community, and everyday decisions through stories and field-based observation.

Today, I manage The Conservation Company, which is the umbrella for all the work I do:

  • Writing and publishing books, articles, stories, and newsletters

  • Creating videos and educational tools for all ages

  • Promoting stewardship lifestyles through landscape planning and local food

  • Selling secondhand goods online to reduce waste and support environmental action

I live in upstate New York, and part time in Indiana and Florida. My work over the last several decades has taken me across the country and around the world. I believe anyone, anywhere can take stewardship action—and it doesn’t have to be complicated.

“Living a stewardship lifestyle – and helping others do the same – is my life’s work.”
